Ottawa Gee-Gees captured inaugural FISU University World Cup of Soccer

Defeating Brazil’s Paulista University in Jinjiang, China, the Ottawa Gee-Gees, a wild card entry in the tournament captured the inaugural FISU University World Cup of Soccer. Mikayla Morton, who calls Courtice, Ontario, her hometown scored the game-winning tally in just the second minute of play, placing a header into the net after Katherine Bearne made a corner kick. Having won the USPORTS women’s soccer championship in 2018, the Gee-Gees earned the right to represent Canada at the tournament.
